A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the efficacy of 1 g of azithromycin as a single dose or 100 mg of doxycycline twice daily for 7 days for the treatment of rectal chlamydia. Medline, Embase, Pub Med, Cochrane Controlled Trials Register, Australia New Zealand Clinical Trial Register and Clinical were searched to the end of April 2014. Studies using 1 g of azithromycin or 7 days of doxycycline for the treatment of rectal chlamydia were eligible. Gender, diagnostic test, serovar, symptomatic status, other sexually transmitted infections, follow-up time, attrition and microbial cure were extracted. Meta-analysis was used to calculate pooled (i) azithromycin and doxycycline efficacy and (ii) efficacy difference. The efficacy of single-dose azithromycin may be considerably lower than 1 week of doxycycline for treating rectal chlamydia. Robust randomized controlled trials are urgently required. I take a 2 month course of Zithromax, half a tablet daily, about twice a year to alleviate exacerbations of chronic Pseudomonas Auriginosa chest infection associated with Cystic Fibrosis. It works excellently in conjunction with a 2 week course of nebulised tobramycin (Tobi) to reduce symptoms and decrease sputum production.

The antibiotic that's sold as Zithromax, Zmax or sometimes referred to as a "Z-Pack" is prescribed to treat bacterial infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, or ear infections. The FDA is warning the public that the pills can cause abnormal changes in the heart's electrical activity that may lead to a fatal heart rhythm. Patients with known risk factors such as existing QT interval prolongation, low blood levels of potassium or magnesium, a slower than normal heart rate, or those who use certain drugs to treat abnormal heart rhythms, or arrhythmias face the greatest risk. "Health care professionals should consider the risk of fatal heart rhythms with azithromycin when considering treatment options for patients who are already at risk for cardiovascular events," the FDA said in its March 12th update. The new guidance was prompted by a May 2012 study and another study by the antibiotic's manufacturer, Pfizer, that looked at risks to electrical activity of the heart in azithromycin-takers. Last May, a New England Journal of Medicine study paid for by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute found there would be 47 extra heart-related deaths per one million course of treatment with five days of Zithromax, as compared to 10 days of amoxicillin and other antibiotics. The risks of cardiovascular death associated with levofloxacin (Levaquin) treatment were similar to those associated with azithromycin treatment, according to the FDA. "People need to recognize that the overall risk is low," Dr. Results A total of 11 articles involving 473 neonates were identified. Adverse events were mainly respiratory (358/1000 neonate), neurological (273/1000 neonates) and gastrointestinal (196/1000 neonates) in origin. Azithromycin significantly reduced the risk of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in extremely premature neonates (RR=0.83, 95% CI 0.71 to 0.98, p=0.02). There was no significant difference in the incidence of elevated liver enzymes between the azithromycin and placebo group (p=0.76). There were four cases of infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS). It is one of the most commonly prescribed antibiotics in children, with a prescription rate of between 4% and 14%.1–3 Since its approval in the USA and Europe,4 5 it has been used extensively for the treatment of several paediatric infectious diseases.6 Prescription rate for respiratory tract infection in children is increasing.3Owing to lack of efficacy and safety studies, oral and intravenous formulations are not recommended for children less than 6 months7 and 16 years,8 respectively. The safety of azithromycin eye drops in children aged under 1 year is also unknown.9 10 Gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal pain are the most commonly reported side effects in paediatrics.11 Increased risk of arrhythmia and cardiovascular-related death in adults has been reported.12 17 Despite limited efficacy and safety data, the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) considers azithromycin as the first choice treatment and chemoprophylaxis of choice for pertussis in neonates. Treatment is recommended for 5–7 days.18There is currently insufficient information on azithromycin treatment in neonates; therefore, this systematic review aims to evaluate all published data and reports on the safety and use of the drug in this age group.

I've been on Tamoxifen since about November last year, I'm very lucky in that I am no longer receiving any other treatments now but recently I have had terrible mood swings, for around the last month or so I can go from sad, to irritated by the tiniest thing, to really rageful within minutes, crying for no reason seems to be my lastest thing. But I'm sure it's just another thing to put up with... All very frustrating as I don't want to feel this way, have lots to look forward to and am lucky to have lovely friends and family so am struggling with my recent moods and hoping that tamoxifen may be the culprit and I'm not just slowly going mad ! Ness x Hi Ness, Sad to hear you too are suffering ( reassuring to know I'm not alone though) I know the night sweats are ridiculous sometimes, not looking forward to winter and central heating, sure there will be a thermostat battle between me and my partner and me opening a sneaky window. day to day is startingto become a struggle, has anyone else had this experience ??? Aside from the night sweats which are horrible and the hot flushes mood swings are something I'm really suffering with. I feel terrible because it's my kids that get the brunt of it. Will let you know if I get any info/reassurance from my Dr next time I see them(Your little one is v cute Hi Chelle and Ness, I do smypathise with both of you. I had two years on hormone therapy for prostate cancer and am with what you say about hot flushes and night sweats. I ended up having a competition with my wife to see who could have the most and I was way out in front both for the amount and also the severity. Allthough I suffered from mood swings, I never did get angry but I did used to find when I heard somthing sad or even somthing good, I often used to have tears running down my face which as a man I found very hard as I had no control over it. One night I thought my wife was in the kichen and there was some thing on the tele about this animal of a father who helped by his wife had tried to rape his 18 month old daughter. The tears just ran down my face when suddenly my wife who had come in the room behind me said "Are yoiu crying"? Tadalafil (Cialis) is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED, impotence; inability to get or keep an erection), and the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH; an enlarged prostate) which include difficulty urinating (hesitation, dribbling, weak stream, and incomplete bladder emptying), painful urination, and urinary frequency and urgency in adult men. Tadalafil (Adcirca) is used to improve the ability to exercise in people with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; high blood pressure in the vessels carrying blood to the lungs, causing shortness of breath, dizziness, and tiredness). Tadalafil is in a class of medications called phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. It works to treat erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. Tadalafil treats PAH by relaxing the blood vessels in the lungs to allow blood to flow more easily. If you are taking tadalafil to treat erectile dysfunction, you should know that it does not cure erectile dysfunction or increase sexual desire. If you are taking tadalafil to treat erectile dysfunction, follow your doctor's directions and the guidelines in this paragraph. Tadalafil does not prevent pregnancy or the spread of sexually transmitted diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). There are two different ways to take tadalafil, either daily or on an as needed basis. Talk to your doctor about which dosing schedule is right for you.
