    Sulfasalazine and hydroxychloroquine rheumatoid arthritis

While these reviews might be helpful, they are not a substitute for the expertise, skill, knowledge and judgement of healthcare practitioners. Hi, I was diagnosed with RA and was put on sulfa, my rheumy tried adding mtx but i had awful side effects so am now on hydroxychloroquine and sulfa..this combination worked for anyone? Hi I've been on this combination for a few months and unfortunately it hasn't worked for me - but that's not to say it won't for you, we are all different in how we react to drugs. Sulphasalasine was helpful in my case but took 12 weeks to kick in.

Sulfasalazine works by slowing the radiographic progression damage to the joints of rheumatoid arthritis, and reducing pain and swelling. It is one of the first line treatments for moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, along with methotrexate and leuflunomide arava. This article primarily covers the author's experience with the use of the combination of methotrexate MTX, sulfasalazine SSZ, and hydroxychloroquine HCQ to treat patients with rheumatoid arthritis RA. Sulfasalazine is a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD indicated for the treatment of adults and children over 6 with RA who have not responded to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs NSAIDs. DMARDS decrease the pain and swelling of inflammatory arthritis and may also prevent damage to joints.

I'm about to start MTX & am hoping that I wont have side effects with that! The side effects of the methotrexate for me were horrendous (chronic chest infections) and I'm now asthmatic as a result. I've stopped Sulfa as I was experiencing a bad taste & smell, which may be caused by sulfa. After a while it wasn't as effective and I too was prescribed methotrexate alongside.

Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil and sulfasalazine Azulfidine are used for mild rheumatoid arthritis. They are not as powerful as other disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs, but they usually cause fewer side effects. Combination hydroxychloroquine and sulfasalazine - does it work for any of you. Now adding sulfasalazine hydroxychloroquine. Content on HealthUnlocked does.

The small intestine and colon are components of your digestive tract, which processes the foods you eat.
